Lieutenant Governor Presents Medal to St. Peter’s Parishioner

May 12 was Manitoba’s 145th birthday. To celebrate the auspicious event, Doreen at LG'sthe Queen’s representative in the Province, His Honour the Honourable Philip S. Lee, Lieutenant Governor presented gold medals to five citizens dedicated to history and heritage in Manitoba. http://www.gov.mb.ca/chc/ manitoba_day.html

Of the five exemplary citizens honoured on May 12, one name is well known in Anglican circles. Doreen Oliver, long-time resident of Selkirk, MB and parishioner of St. Peter, Dynevor received the Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Historical Preservation and Promotion for life-long contributions to the heritage community.

During the LG's gold medalceremony, Lee told those gathered that “History is an essential part of our civilization. It’s a kind of collective memory, but it’s something much more than memory. It’s a foundation. . . ” http://www.manitobalg.ca  Family and friends gathered in support of the recipients could only agree with the LG’s sentiments. They have witnessed dedication, in most cases, for decades.
