Casting Call for Anglican Clergy

WANTED: Anglican and United Church clergy with a theatrical bent (or at least actor-ly aspirations), to The_Vicar_of_Dibley_introperform in a fundraiser production of the Vicar of Dibley.
The Vicar of Dibley is adapted from the beloved BBC sitcom about a small English village church thrown into hilarious chaos when their elderly vicar dies and is replaced by …a WOMAN! And not just any woman, but a gregarious and reverently irreverent Geraldine Granger (played by Dawn French in the TV series). Set in the 90s, shortly after the Church of England began ordaining women, the Vicar of Dibley is a story about a church in transition and the power of humour to transform a community.
This production is a fundraiser for the Manitoba Association of Playwrights – a great organization that provides readings, workshops, and support to amateur and professional playwrights in Manitoba – and St. Matthew’s-Maryland Community Ministry – a United Church and Anglican outreach ministry in Winnipeg’s West End. The Manitoba Association of Playwrights will be looking after the rights and royalties for Arthur Milner’s stage adaptation of the TV scripts, and providing the director, Winnipeg playwright Scott Douglas (who also works at the Centre for Christian Studies). The play will be performed in early May as part of Crescent Fort Rouge United Church’s annual month-long Arts Festival.
And we want to cast it with local clergy! Why? Because it’ll be fun! And who wouldn’t want to come out and see their minister, priest, or deacon as a loveable curmudgeon or dotty old kook?
Performances will be May 6 & 7, 2016. Rehearsals will begin in January, starting at once a week and increasing as we get closer to production (probably with some easing off around Holy Week and Easter).
Interested? Email Scott. Auditions will be in early January.
